Justice Development and Peace Centre (JDPC) Benin, under the Women Aid Collective (WACOL) supported project titled “Empowering Christian Women and Women Leaders of Culture for Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria,” carried out a sensitization and awareness campaign with members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Women Fellowship at GRA, Benin City.
The sensitization focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), its various forms, and the impact it has on individuals, families, and communities. During the session, participants were educated on how to recognize different forms of GBV, the importance of speaking up, and the available channels for reporting and seeking help.
JDPC Benin emphasized the critical role women play as advocates and change agents in their families, churches, and communities. Participants were encouraged to stand against all forms of violence and discrimination and to support survivors by guiding them to appropriate support services.
The interactive session also provided an opportunity for the women to share their experiences, perspectives, and concerns regarding GBV within their communities. Their contributions enriched the discussion and highlighted the need for continued awareness and collective action.
At the end of the engagement, the women expressed deep appreciation to JDPC Benin and Women Aid Collective (WACOL) for the timely and impactful sensitization. They also reaffirmed their commitment to raising awareness and advocating for the prevention of gender-based violence wherever they find themselves.
Through such engagements, JDPC Benin continues to strengthen community awareness and mobilize grassroots actors in the collective effort to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
